Study field: Music Composition. Major instrument: Piano. Other fields: Music Theory, history, conducting and voice.

Over 20 years of composing and teaching piano and music courses experience. He composes wide variety of music from chamber music to symphonic/orchestral works, from instrumental ensembles to art songs, and from music for concert to TV, movie, and festivals.

Dr. Hu’s piano students have won numerous competitions and contests locally to internationally. His teaching traits: systematic/detailed training from basic technique tovirtuoso performance, from music reading skill to comprehensive musicianship. Students can really have “fun” to play the piano only when they really know how to play the piano in artistic way and have proper technique. Students are encouraged to participate in piano events-competitions. It’s however not the reason why we learn the piano. The goal is to be a winner yourself, not winning competitions.

Dr. Hu is the inventor of the world #1 professional piano pedal extender PE-2.

Dr. Hu had hisworld premier symphonic concert “Dragon Soul” at the Kennedy Center in1999, performed by members of the National Symphony Orchestra of USA, Washington Orchestra, and Washington Opera.
